In addition to his flawless safety record and roots as a test pilot, James has over 30 years of experience aviating in various flying missions in over 300 models of aircraft.

Some of his specialties include teaching mountain flying in helicopters, rotorcraft foundation instruction and advanced cross country and aerobatic training in gliders. Along with being involved with flight test programs around the world he often flies unlimited aerobatic planes, warbirds and antique aircraft, gliders on the US Aerobatic Team, cross country racing sailplanes, utility and executive helicopters, bush planes, seaplanes, hot air balloons, unique experimental aircraft, ultralights, paragliders and wingsuits. He is currently commanding Airbus A330 aircraft around the world and has served as Hawaiian Airlines’ Heritage Pilot flying over 500 tours in the airline’s original 1929 CH-300 Bellanca Pacemaker airplane.

After a career flying corporate and utility helicopters James now operates Rotor Hawaii, a rotorcraft foundations school using German AutoGyros to educate future helicopter pilots by specializing in autorotation, mountain flying and high density altitude training. He actively teaches in MD, Bell and Schweizer helicopters across the United States.
